Pueblo, CO – A winter storm is sweeping across Colorado, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow accumulations of 3 to 10 inches are expected in affected regions, with the heaviest snowfall forecasted along east-facing slopes. The Wet Mountains, Pikes Peak area, and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains are among the hardest-hit regions.
Snowfall began late Friday and will continue through Saturday, tapering off by 8 p.m. local time. The Pikes Peak region may see localized totals reaching 10 inches, while Pueblo and El Paso Counties are expected to receive up to 5 inches. Additional snow squalls could develop, rapidly freezing roadways and creating dangerous driving conditions.
Residents are urged to drive cautiously and check road conditions by dialing 511. The arctic front associated with this storm may also bring freezing temperatures, further complicating travel.
Those in Walsenburg, Trinidad, and Canon City should prepare for 3 to 6 inches of snow, with slippery roads likely throughout the day. The NWS advises slowing down and allowing extra travel time.
