Pueblo, Colorado – Winds are whipping across southern Colorado Wednesday as gusts reach up to 60 mph in mountain valleys, with snow and storms targeting the central ranges this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, southwest winds are intensifying through early afternoon, with gusts up to 45 mph on the plains and as high as 60 mph in the mountains and valleys. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region, with the heaviest impact over the Sawatch and Mosquito ranges, where 1–2 inches of snow could fall by nightfall.

Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Canon City are all experiencing breezy and cooler conditions, with high temperatures ranging from the upper 40s in the mountains to the mid-60s on the plains. In the San Luis Valley and up through Salida, showers may accompany the gusty winds, adding to potential travel hazards on Highways 50 and 285.

Drivers should remain alert for sudden gusts and limited visibility, especially in mountain corridors. Residents near the Palmer Divide should prepare for near-freezing lows early Thursday, with cooler-than-normal highs continuing.

Winds are expected to ease by Thursday afternoon, but more alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
