Craig, Colo. – Dense wildfire smoke is settling across northwest Colorado, prompting a health advisory that will remain in effect through 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, an Air Quality Health Advisory was issued early Tuesday morning for Moffat and Rio Blanco counties, including Craig, Meeker, and Rangely. Smoke from fires burning in other western states is drifting into the region and expected to linger through at least Wednesday morning.
As the atmosphere warms during the day, smoke aloft is being pulled to the surface—resulting in moderate to heavy smoke in localized areas. Visibility could drop below 5 miles at times, indicating unhealthy air quality, especially for sensitive groups.
Residents are urged to stay indoors when smoke is visible or air smells smoky. Those with respiratory or heart conditions, children, and the elderly should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. If indoor air quality worsens, consider relocating temporarily.
Officials recommend using air purifiers, keeping windows shut, and avoiding strenuous activity outside. This advisory could be extended if smoke persists.
