Pueblo, CO – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect across much of southern Colorado through 9 p.m. Thursday as critical fire weather conditions threaten multiple counties with elevated wildfire risks.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind gusts up to 60 mph and relative humidity as low as 6 percent are expected throughout the day. The warning includes key areas such as Fremont, El Paso, Las Animas, Bent, and Huerfano counties, as well as the San Luis Valley, Teller County, and the Wet Mountains region.
The combination of strong southwest winds, dry air, and warm temperatures increases the likelihood of fast-spreading fires. Blowing dust is also likely, especially along the southern I-25 corridor, reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions. High fire danger is especially pronounced in zones including Canon City, Pueblo, Trinidad, and Alamosa.
Officials urge residents to avoid any outdoor activities that could generate sparks or flames. Drivers should be cautious on rural roadways due to limited visibility from dust.
Cooler, unsettled weather is expected to arrive late Thursday night, potentially bringing rain and snow to higher elevations by Saturday. However, warmer and drier conditions could return early next week, renewing fire concerns.
