Denver, Colorado – Warmer weather is on the way for Colorado, but it brings a growing threat of afternoon thunderstorms this weekend, with strong to severe storms possible on the plains by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, dry and seasonal conditions will continue Friday with highs between 67–74°F along the urban corridor and cooler readings in the mountains. However, moisture returns Saturday afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected, especially in northern areas.

By Sunday, temperatures could reach 80°F in places like Denver and Greeley. This heating, paired with atmospheric instability, could trigger stronger thunderstorms—potentially severe—after 2 p.m. across the eastern plains, including counties like Weld, Morgan, and Logan. Hail, gusty winds, and brief heavy downpours are possible.

Travelers should monitor for rapidly changing conditions, particularly on I-76 and U.S. 34. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and review severe weather safety plans. Mountain communities will remain slightly cooler, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s all weekend.

Thunderstorm chances will persist into early next week, with more alerts likely if conditions intensify.
