Denver, CO – Bitter cold weather continues to dominate Colorado as the state braces for subzero lows in mountain regions and frigid conditions across the plains through midweek. Mountain towns, including Walden and Red Feather Lakes, are seeing lows between -4°F and 10°F, while urban areas like Denver hover around 18°F overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Tuesday night will be clear but cold, with light winds offering little relief. A gradual warm-up is expected later this week, with Wednesday’s highs reaching the mid-30s in Denver and nearby urban corridors. However, mountain regions will remain in the single digits to mid-20s.
Travelers should prepare for potentially slick roads on major highways such as I-70, where icy patches and blowing snow could pose challenges. Those in the foothills should also be cautious of breezy conditions, which can exacerbate the cold and create localized hazards.
The five-day outlook promises some relief, with highs nearing 50°F by Friday in lower elevations. The mountains will remain cold, but warmer daytime temperatures may ease travel and outdoor activities. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors during the coldest hours, and monitor forecasts for updates on road conditions.
Stay prepared for varying temperatures and shifting winds as Colorado transitions into 2025.
