Thick flakes swirl through the morning air over Colorado Springs, coating trees, windshields, and roadways in a quickening layer of early-December snow. Visibility has dropped below a mile in some areas, and headlights glint off wet pavement along I-25, where traction is limited and speeds have slowed.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. MST for El Paso, Pueblo, and Chaffee Counties. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches are expected, with the heaviest snow through late morning into midafternoon. Light snow and freezing fog continue to limit visibility, particularly near Woodland Park, Monument Hill, and downtown Colorado Springs.

Drivers should use caution, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads that can quickly refreeze once temperatures fall below 30°F. Winds from the northeast around 10 mph could cause light drifting, adding to slick conditions during the evening commute. The NWS warns that travel could be very difficult at times today.

By Thursday morning, skies will clear and sunshine returns, bringing a gradual warmup through the weekend. Highs climb into the 40s by Friday and mid-40s to upper 40s by Saturday, offering a calm and dry stretch ideal for early holiday errands or decorating outdoors.

Still, lingering ice and slush could refreeze each night — so keep a scraper, gloves, and patience handy.
