Pueblo, Colo. – Colorado will stay warmer than usual through Monday, but residents across the southern mountains and plains should prepare for scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s and 80s, making for mild afternoons before storms develop along the higher terrain.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, showers will be most likely near the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains, with storms drifting into the southern plains by evening. Lightning, brief downpours, and gusty winds remain the main hazards.
Drivers along I-25 from Trinidad to Pueblo should be alert for sudden downpours reducing visibility during the late afternoon and evening commute. Outdoor plans in Canon City, La Junta, and Lamar could also be interrupted by storm cells forming over nearby foothills.
Emergency officials recommend avoiding open areas during lightning activity and securing outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. The weather pattern will hold through early next week, but forecasters say a significant change arrives midweek, bringing cooler and possibly wetter conditions across much of the state.
