Pueblo, CO – A dynamic early-season storm is bringing rain to the plains and significant snowfall to the mountains today, with snow expected to develop over the Palmer Divide by early evening, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
According to the agency, mountain snow—heavy at times—will continue through Sunday morning and persist into Sunday night, creating hazardous conditions across high passes. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the highest elevations of the San Juan, Sangre de Cristo, and Pikes Peak regions, where snowfall totals may exceed initial forecasts. Some model guidance suggests amounts could run higher than current projections, and forecasters are urging residents to monitor the latest updates.
Across the southeast plains, rain is likely throughout Sunday, with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s from La Junta to Lamar. Mountain valleys will see highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s, with valley rain mixing with snow at times. Snow over the Palmer Divide is expected between 6 p.m. and midnight, potentially affecting evening travel between Colorado Springs, Monument Hill, and Castle Rock.
Monday brings calmer but cool weather, with highs ranging from the mid-50s on the plains to the upper 40s in mountain valleys and upper 20s to upper 40s across the mountains. Sunshine returns, but slick conditions may linger early where overnight snow accumulates.
Hazardous travel is expected through tonight across high mountain routes, including Wolf Creek Pass, Monarch Pass, and areas near Pikes Peak. Drivers should allow extra time, carry winter gear, and check cotrip.org for updated road conditions.
