DENVER, Colo. – Colorado’s coldest night of the season is set to arrive tonight, with widespread subfreezing temperatures expected across the plains and Front Range. The National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder has issued Freeze Warnings for most of northeast and east-central Colorado, where overnight lows will fall between 26°F and 32°F.
According to the NWS Denver/Boulder office, even the immediate Denver and Boulder metro areas—where temperatures may hover between 32°F and 36°F—are likely to experience widespread frost. Farther east, including Greeley, Fort Morgan, and Limon, a hard freeze is anticipated, effectively ending the growing season.
Residents are urged to cover or bring in frost-sensitive plants, protect outdoor plumbing, and winterize sprinkler systems before sunset. Any exposed water lines should be drained to prevent cracking overnight.
Motorists on I-25, I-70, and Highway 34 should watch for slick spots and patchy frost early Sunday morning. Forecasters say this will mark the first widespread freeze of the fall season, with temperatures rebounding slowly Sunday afternoon under sunny skies.
