Pueblo, Colorado – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday for much of southern Colorado’s mountain regions, where accumulating snow and gusty winds are expected to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snowfall totals of 3 to 10 inches are expected across the Wet Mountains, Wet Mountain Valley, and portions of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains below 11,000 feet. Higher elevations—including the Eastern Sawatch Mountains, La Garita Mountains, Mosquito Range, and the highest peaks of the Sangre de Cristo range—could see 5 to 12 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph.

The advisory includes mountain passes and communities such as Poncha Pass, La Veta Pass, Westcliffe, Rye, Cuchara, Silver Cliff, Stonewall, Climax, and Bonanza. Snow combined with gusty winds may lead to blowing snow, reduced visibility, and difficult to impossible travel at higher elevations.

Snow is expected to begin late Friday morning, intensify at times Friday night into Saturday, and continue into early Sunday. Travel impacts are most likely during the Friday evening commute and overnight periods, especially on mountain highways and passes.

Forecasters warn that rapidly changing conditions may occur, with slick roads, snow-packed passes, and reduced visibility. Motorists are urged to slow down, use caution, and consider delaying travel through mountain areas if possible.

Drivers should check the latest Colorado road conditions by calling 511 before traveling. Residents and travelers in southern Colorado’s high country should prepare for prolonged winter driving conditions through early Sunday.
