Pueblo, CO – Snowfall is expected to intensify in Colorado’s high country, with the Eastern San Juan Mountains forecast to receive up to 8 inches of snow through Thursday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. MDT Thursday for areas above 10,000 feet, including Wolf Creek Pass and Cumbres Pass. The advisory, issued late Wednesday night, warns of travel disruptions, particularly during the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
Motorists traveling through the high mountain passes should prepare for slick, snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. Authorities advise slowing down, using extra caution, and checking road conditions via Colorado’s 511 service before departing.
Snowfall totals are projected to range between 4 and 8 inches, posing a challenge for travelers and transportation in the region. This spring snow event is not unusual for the San Juan Mountains, which often experience lingering winter weather well into April due to elevation and local climate patterns.
Drivers should consider carrying tire chains or using snow-ready vehicles. Emergency supplies, such as blankets and food, are also recommended for those traversing remote or mountainous areas during the advisory window.
