Grand Junction, CO – Winter weather is returning to the Colorado high country, with two rounds of snow expected to impact travel across the northern and central mountains through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.
The first round of snow will primarily affect the northern Colorado mountains through Friday afternoon, bringing several inches of accumulation and slick roadways along high-elevation passes.
A second, stronger wave arrives Friday night into Sunday morning, bringing more widespread snowfall and gusty winds, especially over the Rocky Mountain passes and higher elevations. Snowfall totals could exceed 9–15 inches in the most affected areas, such as Steamboat Springs, Vail, and Aspen.
Motorists should expect hazardous travel conditions, periods of low visibility, and possible road closures. Drivers are urged to check road conditions before traveling and carry winter emergency gear.
