Pueblo, Colorado – Heavy thunderstorms are set to develop over Pueblo and much of southeast Colorado Tuesday afternoon, bringing flash flooding, lightning, and dangerous road conditions on I-25 and CO-96.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, monsoon moisture will fuel thunderstorms starting around 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. While rainfall totals may be under a tenth of an inch in most spots, isolated pockets could receive much more—especially in urban areas and near recent burn scars. Lightning and strong wind gusts will be the main hazards, with storms likely to persist into Wednesday and Thursday.
Northwest winds will pick up Tuesday afternoon at 10–15 mph, adding to travel difficulty during storm activity. Showers will taper off slightly by Friday, but the risk of thunderstorms continues into the weekend.
