Pueblo, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Colorado’s mountain regions through Saturday evening, bringing heavy snow and strong winds. Forecasters warn of dangerous travel conditions as snowfall rates intensify overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the storm will bring 24 to 30 inches of snow to the San Juan Mountains. Snowfall begins today in the San Juans, La Garitas, and eastern Sawatch Mountains before spreading eastward.
Winds could gust between 50 to 65 mph, leading to blowing snow and poor visibility in mountain passes. Officials say travel may become impossible in some areas.
The heaviest snowfall is expected tonight and early Friday morning. Snow will continue through Saturday, with lighter accumulations lingering into the evening.
Residents and travelers should monitor updates from weather.gov/pub and check road conditions at cotrip.org. Officials urge people to delay travel if possible and prepare for hazardous conditions.
