Colorado Springs, CO – Strong to severe storms could sweep across eastern Colorado by late Sunday, with damaging winds and large hail posing risks along the La Junta to Kim line. The National Weather Service warns that isolated tornadoes are also possible as storms develop after 2 p.m. and push east into Kansas by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms may drop hail up to two inches in diameter and produce wind gusts over 60 mph. Affected areas include portions of central, south-central, and southeast Colorado, especially low-elevation valleys and the eastern plains. Residents from Alamosa to Lamar should prepare for rapid storm development, potentially hazardous travel, and fast-changing weather through tonight.

By Monday, a drier pattern takes over. Temperatures will rise sharply across the region, with highs reaching the mid-90s by Tuesday in cities like Colorado Springs and Pueblo. While Monday and Wednesday may bring isolated storms in the mountains, widespread thunderstorms are expected to return to the plains by late Friday into Saturday.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware through the weekend and into next week, as watches or warnings could be issued on short notice.
