Denver, CO – Residents across the Palmer Divide and nearby counties are being urged to prepare for chilly overnight temperatures that could result in patchy frost, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Denver/Boulder.

The NWS said Thursday evening that the coldest air is expected overnight across the Palmer Divide, with possible frost extending into Weld and Lincoln counties. Temperatures are forecast to drop between 32 and 36 degrees, cold enough to form light frost in lower-elevation areas.

According to the agency, the best opportunity for frost will occur along the Palmer Divide and northern Lincoln County, though isolated patches may also appear in Weld County. Officials recommend that residents cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors and winterize outdoor sprinkler systems to avoid damage.

Frost formation can occur when clear skies and calm winds allow surface temperatures to drop quickly, creating a thin layer of ice on vegetation and outdoor surfaces. Gardeners and homeowners across the Front Range are encouraged to take precautions before temperatures fall overnight.

The advisory comes as fall temperatures continue to settle across eastern Colorado, signaling the first widespread frost potential of the season.
