Colorado — Cold air settles into the Grand Valley this morning as clear skies sit overhead and mountain peaks fade into pale winter light. Farther north and east, light snow brushes the high terrain, creating slick conditions on key mountain routes.

In Grand Junction, temperatures start in the low 20s with calm winds. Valley roads remain mostly dry, but the National Weather Service warns that light snow develops this morning across the northern and central Divide. Rabbit Ears Pass and Vail Pass may turn slick quickly, especially during early travel hours. Drivers heading toward the high country should slow down and allow extra time.

Sunshine dominates the valley today. Highs climb near 48 degrees by afternoon, a noticeable contrast to colder mornings. Snow stays confined to higher elevations, and impacts remain limited outside mountain passes. Still, shaded stretches can hide icy patches, even where roads look clear.

Tonight stays quiet. Skies remain mostly clear, and temperatures fall near 20 degrees. Any daytime melting refreezes after dark, increasing the risk of black ice on bridges and rural roads.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring a steady, mild pattern. Sunshine continues with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Winds stay light, making for comfortable daytime conditions. Outdoor plans benefit from the calm stretch, though mornings remain cold.

By Thursday, clouds increase slightly, but temperatures stay mild near 47 degrees. Attention then shifts to Friday. A weak system brings a slight chance of rain and snow showers by late morning. Accumulations look light, but timing matters. Brief slick spots could develop during active travel hours.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook favors near-normal precipitation and above-normal temperatures across western Colorado. Widespread hazards appear unlikely, though winter weather remains possible in the mountains.

If you’re heading over the passes today, prepare for changing conditions. In town, enjoy the sunshine but watch for refreezing after sunset.
