Colorado — Cold air cuts sharply across the plains this morning, stinging exposed skin and rattling loose debris before sunrise. Southern Colorado wakes up under winter’s harsh edge, with dangerously low wind chills creating real safety concerns early.

Temperatures sit in the teens and low 20s across Pueblo and Colorado Springs, but gusty north winds push wind chills below zero in spots. According to the National Weather Service, dangerously low wind chills across the plains and the San Luis Valley persist through mid-morning, especially in open and elevated areas.

Early travel may feel harsh but manageable. Roads remain mostly dry, though cold pavement can refreeze moisture quickly in shaded stretches. Drivers on I-25 should watch bridges and ramps during the morning hours.

By afternoon, conditions slowly improve. Sunshine breaks through clouds, and highs climb into the mid to upper 40s. The change feels noticeable, though winter jackets remain necessary after sunset.

Tonight turns sharply colder again. Lows fall into the teens, allowing any daytime melt to refreeze. Flash-freezing remains a concern for sidewalks, parking lots, and untreated roads.

Wednesday continues the warming trend. Highs reach the low 50s, and winds ease, making outdoor conditions far more tolerable. Clouds increase briefly, but precipitation remains spotty and light at best.

Thursday and Friday build on the recovery. Mostly sunny skies push highs into the upper 40s and near 50 again, setting the stage for a mild weekend. According to the NWS, any precipitation chances later this week look limited and scattered.

Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook favors below-normal precipitation across Colorado, with temperatures trending near or above seasonal levels into early February.

For now, cold mornings still demand caution. Limit early exposure, bundle up pets and pipes, and plan extra time before sunrise. How cold did it feel stepping outside where you live?
