The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning through 7 p.m. for parts of east-central and southeast Colorado, including Colorado Springs and nearby communities. North winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected through the day.
Drivers may notice sudden wind bursts along exposed highways.
Travel along Interstate 25, Highway 24, and east-west roads across El Paso County could become difficult, especially for trucks and high-profile vehicles. Gusty winds may also kick up blowing dust or drifting snow, briefly lowering visibility.
Keep both hands on the wheel while driving.
Light snow showers are also possible early in the day. Accumulation should remain light, generally less than a half inch, but winds may push snow across roadways and sidewalks.
Loose outdoor objects could easily be blown around.
Meteorologists say the strongest winds should ease later in the afternoon as the system pushes east. After the windstorm exits, the weather pattern shifts dramatically toward warmer spring conditions.
