Colorado residents can enjoy sunshine Wednesday before unsettled fall weather brings thunderstorms and travel hazards to Colorado Springs by Friday afternoon. Drivers on I-25 should prepare for wet pavement, slower commutes, and possible delays as storm chances climb heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, skies remain clear Wednesday with highs near 83 degrees and light north winds shifting southwest overnight. By Thursday, clouds increase and a slight chance of showers develops before nightfall. Rain and thunder activity strengthens Friday, with a 50 percent chance of storms through the afternoon.

Residents across El Paso County, including Fountain and Monument, should plan for rapidly changing conditions and potential lightning delays. Outdoor events, especially football games, could face interruptions Friday evening if storms linger. NWS advises checking radar before traveling and avoiding flooded intersections.

Calm conditions midweek give way to a stormier setup as moist air pushes into southern Colorado. Temperatures stay seasonable, with highs in the 70s and overnight lows in the 50s through the weekend. Light winds add to comfortable mornings, but afternoon thunderstorms may unsettle travel and outdoor plans.

Unsettled weather could stretch into early next week, though Saturday and Sunday both bring partly sunny skies with isolated storm chances. Officials recommend keeping phones charged for weather alerts and allowing extra time if traveling along I-25 during peak storm periods.

More advisories could be issued later this week as thunderstorm potential increases.
