Pueblo, CO – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across southern and central Colorado this weekend, bringing the risk of hail, heavy rain, and damaging winds. According to the National Weather Service, isolated thunderstorms may start as early as Saturday, with stronger storms anticipated by Sunday, particularly in the high country and San Juan Mountains.

The storm system will bring an increased risk for flash flooding, especially in mountainous areas. On Sunday, intense thunderstorms are likely, producing hail and outflow winds gusting up to 45 mph. In addition to the damaging winds, heavy rainfall could cause localized flash flooding across affected areas, with areas like the San Juan Mountains and Sangre de Cristo Mountains seeing the highest risk for severe weather.

By Tuesday, these storms will spread eastward, and heavy rain will continue to affect lower elevations in the Colorado Springs area, where up to 100% chance of rain is predicted. Monday night into Tuesday morning, rain will be persistent with the possibility of thunderstorms, making roads slippery and potentially hazardous for travelers.

To stay safe, residents are urged to monitor local advisories, avoid non-essential travel during storm conditions, and ensure flash flood preparedness, especially in areas prone to water runoff.
