Pueblo, Colorado – A classic July weather pattern is returning to southern Colorado, as hot temperatures and afternoon storms threaten to disrupt weekend plans from the plains to the mountain valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong storms are possible Saturday and Sunday, bringing gusty winds, small hail, and scattered downpours. Temperatures will range from 88 to 97 degrees across the plains—including Pueblo and La Junta—with mountain valleys slightly cooler, peaking at 85°F. Storm chances are highest in the mountains, where 60% odds for rain could impact travel on routes like Highway 50 and US 160.

Residents in Cañon City, Trinidad, and Alamosa should watch for rapidly changing conditions, especially between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day. The strongest storms could produce brief heavy rain and wind gusts over 40 mph, especially near the Sangre de Cristo Range and along I-25. Mountain towns such as Salida and Westcliffe face a greater risk of afternoon showers, making outdoor plans uncertain.

To stay safe, keep an eye on weather alerts, avoid hiking above treeline during storms, and secure outdoor items vulnerable to wind. Storms are typical for July but can develop quickly—similar to previous summer surges in 2021 and 2022.

Showers may linger into Sunday night, and more advisories could be issued if storms intensify. Stay tuned to the latest local updates as the active pattern continues.

Five-Day Colorado Weather Outlook:
