Denver, Colorado – Smoky skies and fast-moving thunderstorms are converging on northeast Colorado Thursday afternoon, bringing the risk of 60 mph winds, large hail, and intense downpours along the I-25 corridor from Denver to Akron.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, storms are expected to fire over the mountains by early afternoon and roll east across the plains through this evening. Affected areas include Boulder, Larimer, Weld, and Adams counties, with the strongest storms likely between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Some storms may trigger localized flash flooding, though rapid storm movement should reduce widespread flood concerns.

Areas along and north of Denver, including Fort Collins and Greeley, could experience severe winds and hail up to 1 inch in diameter. Drivers should remain alert on I-70, I-76, and U.S. 34 as brief visibility reductions and ponding on roads are possible. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and delay non-essential travel until storms pass.

Meanwhile, an Ozone Action Day Alert remains in effect for the Front Range through 4 p.m. Friday, with unhealthy air quality possible along the foothills and metro Denver. Sensitive groups should limit time outdoors and avoid strenuous activity.

Storm chances drop this weekend as drier air moves in. Another weather advisory may be issued if conditions change.
