Pueblo, CO – Residents across southern Colorado should prepare for scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds Sunday, with the National Weather Service warning of potentially hazardous conditions through the afternoon and evening.
According to the US National Weather Service Pueblo office, showers and storms are expected to develop by mid-afternoon across valleys and mountains, with activity spreading onto the plains. The main threats with today’s storms include heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts of up to 50 mph. A brief severe storm cannot be ruled out.
Temperatures across the region will remain slightly warmer than normal, with forecast highs ranging from the upper 60s in Alamosa to the mid-80s around La Junta and Lamar. Pueblo is expected to reach a high near 82 degrees.
The unsettled weather pattern is expected to shift beginning Monday. Forecasters say a warming and drying trend will set in for much of the week, with temperatures climbing steadily into the 80s across the plains. Another storm system may return by next weekend.
Drivers should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility and localized flooding in areas of heavy rain, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas. The National Weather Service recommends securing outdoor items that could be blown around by strong winds.
