Grand Junction, CO – Sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing across western Colorado and eastern Utah face immediate risk early Friday as temperatures drop below freezing, threatening crops before mid-morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, with temperatures falling below 32°F across a wide region including Grand Junction, Montrose, Durango, and Moab . A second round of freezing conditions is possible late Friday night into Saturday morning under a Freeze Watch.
Agricultural areas in the Grand Valley, Uncompahgre Valley, and Four Corners region could see frost damage to early-season crops, vineyards, and gardens. In urban areas like Glenwood Springs and Cortez, unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be vulnerable to freezing.
Cold air settling into valleys overnight will allow temperatures to drop quickly, especially in low-lying and rural areas. Locations near rivers and basins are at higher risk for widespread frost.
Residents should cover plants, bring sensitive vegetation indoors, and insulate exposed pipes. Another round of freezing temperatures is likely by early Saturday morning, and additional alerts may be issued as conditions develop.
