Grand Junction, CO – Colder air and strong winds are expected to bring hazardous travel conditions to western Colorado starting Friday afternoon. Winds will gust 30-40 mph in valleys and up to 50 mph in the mountains, causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, snow levels will drop as a significant storm moves through the region Friday into Saturday. The northern and central mountains are expected to see the worst conditions, with scattered snow showers continuing into next week.

Drivers on I-70 and U.S. 50 should prepare for icy roads and possible closures. The storm will begin with rain and transition to snow overnight Friday. Saturday will bring additional snowfall, with highs in the mid-50s before temperatures plunge into the 20s at night.

Sunday will see mostly sunny skies but cold conditions, with highs near 50°F. Next week starts with partly cloudy skies and temperatures staying in the mid-40s.

Residents should monitor forecasts and plan for delays. Travelers heading into higher elevations should carry emergency kits and check road conditions before departing.
