Colorado – Strong winds are already sweeping across the Front Range, and by midday, dry air and intensifying gusts will create dangerous fire conditions that can spread flames rapidly across the Denver metro.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 8 a.m. through early evening, with sustained winds between 20 and 35 mph and gusts reaching 45 mph across the plains. In foothill areas, gusts could peak near 60 mph while humidity drops as low as 16 percent.

Across Denver and along the busy I-25 corridor, drivers should prepare for sudden crosswinds, especially in open stretches and near overpasses. High-profile vehicles may experience difficult handling, while blowing dust could briefly reduce visibility.

The bigger concern is fire danger. Any spark could spread quickly under these conditions. Avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and delay yard work that could produce sparks. Fire crews remain on alert across northeast and north-central Colorado.

Earlier snow showers north of Denver have moved out, but colder air lingers. Temperatures climb into the mid-50s today before dropping sharply tonight under clearing skies.

By Saturday, calmer weather returns with sunshine and lighter winds. Highs rebound into the mid-60s, followed by near 70°F Sunday, offering a more typical spring pattern.

Early next week continues mild, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s before a slight chance of showers returns midweek.
