Pueblo, Colorado – Strong to marginally severe thunderstorms could disrupt Sunday afternoon plans across eastern Colorado, with the greatest risk of large hail and damaging winds emerging after 1 p.m. in El Paso and Kiowa counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a cold front sweeping across the region will trigger storm development over the mountains early this afternoon, spreading eastward and intensifying into the evening. Storms may bring hail up to 1 inch in diameter, wind gusts up to 60 mph, downed trees and power lines, and localized flash flooding.
The severe weather threat is highest across Colorado’s southeastern plains, including Colorado Springs, Calhan, La Junta, and Lamar. Residents in these areas should monitor alerts, especially if traveling along U.S. 24 or Highway 50. Outdoor activities should be reconsidered, and those without shelter are urged to remain weather-aware.
Temperatures will rise rapidly ahead of the front, adding fuel for these potentially dangerous storms. Cooler, more stable conditions are expected to follow on Monday, bringing some relief.
Warnings remain in effect through Sunday evening, and additional advisories may be issued if storm coverage expands further east.
