Pueblo, Colo. – Southern Colorado will see a sharp change Monday as warm, above-seasonal temperatures give way to showers, storms, and a steep cold front pushing south across the Rockies.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will increase Monday afternoon and evening, especially over higher terrain near the central mountains and the Pikes Peak region. Snow is likely at elevations above 10,000 feet through Tuesday night, with several inches of accumulation possible on mountain passes.

Temperatures in cities like Pueblo and Colorado Springs will drop nearly 20 degrees from Monday into Tuesday, with highs falling from the 80s into the 60s. La Junta and Lamar, which will push into the mid-80s Monday, will also cool sharply by Tuesday. Mountain towns including Leadville and Buena Vista will see highs slip into the 40s and 50s with snow mixing in nearby.

Travelers heading into the high country Monday night into Tuesday should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary mountain travel, especially near Monarch Pass and Pikes Peak, where snowfall is most likely.

Unsettled conditions will linger into Wednesday, and additional advisories may be issued as the system develops.
