Pueblo, CO – Colorado residents can expect a dramatic weather shift beginning Monday evening as a cold front moves through, bringing thunderstorms to the plains and snow to the mountains.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, temperatures will remain above normal across southern Colorado during the day Monday, but the front will arrive later this afternoon into tonight. This system will trigger rain and thunderstorm chances, some of which could be severe, particularly across eastern plains counties.

Meanwhile, higher elevations above 10,000 feet are forecast to receive snowfall, with totals increasing to 4 to 6 inches above 12,000 feet. The NWS reports that Pikes Peak is included in the forecast area expected to see accumulating snow.

The weather change will also bring cooler temperatures across much of the region. By Tuesday, highs are projected to remain 10 to 15 degrees below Monday’s levels, with rain and snow chances persisting through the day.

The NWS advises drivers and outdoor recreationists to prepare for slick roads in mountain passes and sudden storm development across the plains.
