COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — The sun may shine bright across the Front Range this morning, but a midweek snowmaker is closing in on southern Colorado. After a quiet start to December, a new winter system will bring accumulating snow and colder air by Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, creating slick travel conditions along I-25 and mountain passes west of Pueblo and Colorado Springs.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the system will arrive late Tuesday evening, dropping 1 to 3 inches across lower elevations and up to 6 inches in the southern mountains. Flurries may begin as early as Tuesday afternoon along the higher foothills before spreading east.
While totals will vary, even light snow could reduce visibility and make untreated roads icy, particularly near Monument Hill, the Wet Mountains, and the southern Sangre de Cristo range. Morning commuters Wednesday should allow extra time and drive with caution as temperatures remain below freezing.
Behind the storm, a gusty northwest flow will persist into Thursday, keeping highs in the 30s and low 40s under mostly sunny skies. The pattern stays active, with another chance of light snow showers possible by Friday night into Saturday — a sign that December’s first true winter stretch has begun.
