COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Front Range starts the morning in a chill, cloud-streaked calm — 40°F with damp air clinging to the foothills. A storm is building west of the Rockies, and by Sunday, it’s set to deliver a mix of rain and snow across parts of southern Colorado, including Colorado Springs.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Pacific system will sweep across the region late this weekend, pulling in colder air and mountain snow by Saturday night. Most higher elevations could pick up 4 to 8 inches of snow, particularly above 10,000 feet. While the city will mostly see rain, a rain-to-snow changeover is likely Sunday night as temperatures dip near freezing.

For residents and travelers, this system could bring slick conditions across I-25 and US-24, especially in Palmer Divide and Monument Hill areas, where a brief accumulation of slush is possible. Expect gusty winds and scattered showers Saturday evening before colder air settles in early Monday.

Thanksgiving week begins with a break — sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s Monday and Tuesday. However, meteorologists are watching a potential secondary cold front that may bring another round of light snow to central Colorado by Wednesday, just as the holiday travel surge begins.

Looking beyond the weekend, models hint at heavier snow potential (3–10 inches) across the northern Plains and Midwest between November 25 and December 3, signaling a larger-scale winter pattern shift into early December.

For now, southern Colorado gets a wet, chilly reminder that winter is near — just in time for the Thanksgiving travel rush.
