DENVER, CO – A significant winter weather system is set to arrive in Colorado on Sunday night, bringing a mix of rain and snow across the Denver area. Drivers are urged to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, particularly on mountain passes and main roads near the city, where snow accumulation could make travel treacherous. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), this weather pattern is expected to intensify Monday morning, with impacts on both urban corridors and high-elevation areas.

Sunday evening will start with partly cloudy skies, transitioning to rain after midnight, with temperatures dipping into the 30s. By early Monday, rain is likely to turn into snow, especially in higher terrains. The NWS forecasts between 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation around Denver, with higher amounts possible in areas south of the city. Travel along major routes, including I-70, could be affected, with snow-covered roads creating delays and slippery conditions.

The extended forecast suggests the cold and snowy conditions will persist through mid-week, with another system bringing moderate to heavy snowfall to the region on Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday is likely to offer a brief respite with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s, but another wave of snow is expected by late Wednesday. For residents in the Denver area and travelers along mountain roads, additional snowfall on Wednesday could accumulate, raising the potential for more difficult travel conditions heading into the weekend.

This week’s fluctuating weather will bring a 40% chance of snow showers continuing into Friday. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts, take necessary travel precautions, and prepare for cold, snowy conditions through the week.
