Grand Junction, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for parts of western Colorado, with snow and strong winds expected to impact travel until 6 a.m. MDT Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, areas including the Upper Yampa River Basin, Steamboat Springs, and the San Juan Mountains are experiencing continued snowfall. Additional accumulations of up to one inch are expected in Steamboat Springs, while higher elevations above 8,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains could see up to four inches of new snow. Winds in the mountains may gust as high as 45 mph, further reducing visibility.
Travel conditions could be hazardous, with roads becoming icy and snow-packed. Blowing snow may reduce visibility to under half a mile at times, making mountain passes particularly dangerous. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check road conditions before traveling by calling 511.
The advisory covers the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide, as well as the Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, including the cities of Ridgway, Telluride, Ouray, Silverton, Rico, and Hesperus.
The storm is expected to taper off early Wednesday morning, with improving conditions throughout the day. Travelers are advised to remain vigilant and allow extra time for travel in affected areas.
