Pueblo, Colo. – Strong thunderstorms could slam central Colorado this afternoon with damaging winds, heavy rain, and large hail. The National Weather Service warns the most dangerous period will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., especially across the Pikes Peak region and the adjacent plains north of Highway 50.

According to the NWS office in Pueblo, hail up to 1 inch in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 to 70 mph are possible, along with localized flash flooding. El Paso County faces the highest risk of flooding, where rainfall could quickly overwhelm low-lying areas and roadways.

Communities from Colorado Springs to Monument may see the brunt of the storms, with dangerous driving conditions developing quickly during the late afternoon commute. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and use caution in areas prone to flash flooding, including smaller creeks and urban streets.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and stay weather aware as storms build. Emergency officials caution that conditions may change rapidly and more advisories could be issued through the evening.
