Denver, CO – Colorado residents should prepare for a dramatic shift in weather as severe thunderstorms, gusty winds, and significantly cooler temperatures are expected to impact the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver/Boulder has issued a forecast warning of scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms today, with heavy rain, small hail, and wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph.
According to the NWS, the storms are expected to develop over the northeast plains of Colorado, where a severe thunderstorm or two could potentially occur. The high temperatures across the region will remain intense today, with readings reaching the upper 90s in many areas, including Denver, Greeley, and Fort Morgan.
However, residents should brace for a sharp drop in temperatures beginning Thursday, with highs expected to be 20 to 30 degrees cooler. Rain showers are likely, particularly along the Front Range, and afternoon thunderstorms may persist, especially south of Denver.
The cooler temperatures will continue into the weekend, with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s. While the storms bring relief from the heat, they may also cause hazardous conditions, especially with the potential for flash flooding and wind damage. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take precautions to stay safe during these volatile conditions.
