Pueblo, Colorado – Residents across Colorado’s southeast plains should brace for damaging storms Sunday, with severe thunderstorms expected to roll through by afternoon and last until early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms capable of producing hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 mph could develop after 2 p.m. and persist until 1 a.m., especially east of I-25. Areas from Trinidad to Lamar and Springfield are most at risk.
Cities like La Junta and Eads may experience isolated but intense cells, while lightning and brief heavy downpours could disrupt travel along U.S. Routes 50 and 287. Pueblo County faces less intense activity but could still see spotty lightning and wind gusts during peak hours.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and charge electronic devices in case of power outages. If hail begins, seek sturdy shelter immediately — especially drivers on rural highways.
This is part of a broader pattern expected to bring more storms on Tuesday. Alerts remain in effect across eastern Colorado through early Monday, with further advisories possible depending on storm development.
