Denver, Colorado – Residents along Colorado’s I-25 corridor should brace for strong storms and the potential for large hail Wednesday afternoon and evening, as cooler air and increased moisture bring severe weather risks across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, clouds will blanket the plains Wednesday morning, but by late afternoon, thunderstorms are expected to build over the mountains before tracking east. The most significant threat is large hail, especially from Denver south through Colorado Springs and Pueblo, with damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and even tornadoes possible into the evening.

Motorists traveling I-25 or I-70, as well as communities in Weld, El Paso, Arapahoe, and Douglas counties, should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and potential road hazards. Local emergency managers advise residents to secure outdoor items, charge cell phones, and review shelter plans. School districts and businesses in affected areas are monitoring for possible schedule changes.

This storm system marks one of the more intense July outbreaks for Colorado, reminiscent of similar events in 2021. The severe weather threat remains until late Wednesday, and additional watches or warnings could be issued as storms develop.
