Pueblo, Colorado – Cooler air swept into eastern Colorado Sunday, dropping daytime highs into the 60s across the plains and mid-70s over the San Luis Valley, while afternoon thunderstorms threaten to turn severe.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong storms could develop by late afternoon across the southeast plains, bringing the potential for large hail and damaging winds. Showers and storms are expected to continue into the evening, especially near Lamar, La Junta, and Springfield.
Cities like Pueblo, Walsenburg, and Trinidad will stay in the 60s today, while Alamosa and Monte Vista may reach the low to mid-70s. Drivers along U.S. 50 and U.S. 160 should stay alert for sudden downpours and wind gusts that could reduce visibility. Outdoor plans may be interrupted by lightning and hail—residents are advised to move indoors at the first sign of thunder.
Cooler-than-average temperatures are expected to persist into Monday, with similar highs and another chance for afternoon storms. Active weather is likely to continue through the middle of the week, with updated alerts possible as the pattern evolves.
