Colorado Springs, CO – Triple-digit heat won’t arrive just yet, but Colorado’s eastern plains will bake Saturday as isolated thunderstorms return by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, drier and warmer conditions will dominate Saturday, June 28, across southern and central Colorado. Colorado Springs and Pueblo will reach highs near 89°F and 87°F respectively, with increasing cloud cover and a 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms developing over the higher terrain, including Palmer Divide and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Winds could gust up to 45 mph in isolated cells, especially near Raton Mesa and Fremont County. Lightning, brief downpours, and small hail are possible in stronger storms. Those in burn scar regions, like the Decker Fire zone near Chaffee County, should remain alert for sudden runoff risks Sunday and beyond.

Travelers on I-25 and Highway 50 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads if storms develop during the afternoon or early evening hours.

Looking ahead, storm chances rise to 30–50% Sunday and Monday, with widespread showers likely Monday afternoon and evening. Flash flooding concerns grow over vulnerable terrain. By Tuesday, July 2, drier air briefly returns, with highs near 84°F.
