Grand Junction, Colorado – Another day of dangerous fire weather and strong storms is unfolding across northwestern Colorado and northeastern Utah, where Red Flag Warnings remain in effect through Thursday evening. Windy, dry conditions are combining with hot afternoon temperatures, raising wildfire concerns and triggering a wave of isolated but intense thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, critical fire conditions are expected in areas including Craig, Meeker, Rangely, and Vernal. The Red Flag Warning covers portions of Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Uintah counties, where gusty winds and low humidity may rapidly spread any new fires.

By late afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop across the region, bringing gusty outflow winds up to 45 mph, brief heavy rain, and small hail. Areas along I-70 east of Rifle have a 40–60% chance of precipitation, while western areas remain much drier. Lightning remains a key concern for igniting new fires in dry fuels.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and remain weather-aware throughout the evening. Conditions may ease slightly overnight, but new advisories could be issued Friday depending on evolving fire danger and storm development.
