Colorado Springs, CO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for multiple counties in southern Colorado today, with high winds and low humidity creating dangerous fire conditions. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, will last from noon to 8 p.m. MDT on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
According to the National Weather Service, affected areas include Southern El Paso County, Pueblo County, Huerfano County, Western Las Animas County, and several others. The warning covers Fire Weather Zones 227 to 237. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution when considering outdoor activities that could start fires.
West winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph. Relative humidity will drop to 10 to 15 percent, heightening the risk of rapid fire spread. Firefighters advise against any outdoor burning during these conditions.
The combination of gusty winds, dry air, and warm temperatures could lead to extreme fire behavior. Local authorities are advising residents to stay vigilant and to report any signs of fire immediately.
For additional safety measures, avoid open flames and ensure all outdoor equipment is properly maintained to prevent sparks.
