Pueblo, Colorado – Dry winds and temperatures near 70°F will heighten fire danger across southern Colorado Friday, with a Red Flag Warning active from noon to 8 p.m. in the San Luis Valley, including Alamosa and Saguache counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, cooler-than-normal temperatures and heavy cloud cover will dominate the eastern plains, especially along and east of the I-25 corridor. Scattered showers and thunderstorms—some possibly severe—could develop through the afternoon and evening, mainly impacting cities like Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Trinidad.
Meanwhile, western mountain areas from Creede to Gunnison remain dry but gusty, setting the stage for a Fire Weather Watch Saturday afternoon. Highs in these areas will range from the upper 60s to low 70s, while places like Aspen and Breckenridge will stay cooler in the 40s and 50s.
Residents in high-risk zones are urged to avoid open flames, delay outdoor burning, and secure loose items. Travelers on Highway 160 and US 285 should remain alert for sudden weather changes.
Fire weather conditions are likely to persist into Saturday. Additional warnings may be issued as winds continue and vegetation remains dry.
