Springfield, CO – Residents across southeast Colorado should prepare for a chilly night as a Frost Advisory goes into effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
The advisory covers eastern Las Animas and Baca counties, including the communities of Springfield, Walsh, Kim, and Branson, where temperatures are expected to fall to around 32°F overnight.
Forecasters warn that frost formation is likely, which could damage or kill sensitive plants and crops if left uncovered. Residents are encouraged to bring potted plants indoors, cover garden vegetation, and protect flowers and shrubs before temperatures drop after sunset.
While this isn’t the season’s first cold night, the NWS notes that Sunday morning could bring the most widespread frost so far this fall for the far southeast plains. Conditions should improve after sunrise as temperatures climb back into the upper 50s and 60s later in the day.
