COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Cold air slides down from the Sangre de Cristo peaks before dawn, carrying the clean scent of pine and distant snow. A faint haze settles over the Front Range — a quiet prelude to the next change sweeping across southern Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, isolated showers may develop Thursday as a Pacific disturbance crosses the Rockies. Most of the action will stay west of the I-25 corridor, but a few stray showers could reach Colorado Springs by late afternoon. In the mountains, however, winter makes a more confident entrance. Snow is expected above 10,000 feet in the Mosquito, Sawatch, and San Juan Ranges, where accumulations of 3 to 5 inches could build through Friday morning.

Residents traveling U.S. 50 or U.S. 160 through Monarch Pass or Wolf Creek Pass should be ready for slick, slushy stretches and gusty crosswinds. Brief thunder or heavier bursts of snow are also possible near the Continental Divide.

By Friday afternoon, skies begin to clear as cooler air settles east of the mountains. Highs in Colorado Springs will hover near 59°F with light winds, setting up a calmer and sunnier weekend. Saturday and Sunday both look ideal for fall cleanup or Halloween decorating, with highs near 68°F and crisp evening air.

After all, it’s the classic late-October shuffle — mountain snow, plains rain, then Colorado’s bright blue sky returning right on cue.
