Pueblo, CO – Snow is blanketing Colorado’s central mountains with increasing intensity Friday, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory that will remain in effect through midnight. The advisory impacts areas such as Leadville, Salida, and Buena Vista, where wind gusts are also expected to reach up to 50 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the heaviest snowfall will persist through late Friday, with peak accumulation during the morning hours. Forecasts show 3 to 8 inches of snow possible in higher elevations, including key travel routes across mountain passes.
Travelers are urged to use caution on snow-covered roads, especially where visibility is reduced due to blowing and drifting snow. Mountain roads and high-altitude highways may experience hazardous conditions as snow combines with strong winds.
Motorists should allow extra travel time and consider postponing nonessential trips. Carrying emergency supplies and using snow tires or chains is highly recommended in affected areas.
While snowfall rates will gradually taper late Friday, residual impacts from snow-covered roads and drifting may continue into early Saturday. Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and road condition reports through CDOT and official NWS channels.
