Denver, CO – Colorado residents should prepare for severe thunderstorms on Thursday, with large hail and high winds expected. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Storm Prediction Center has issued an alert for late Thursday afternoon.
According to NOAA, hail up to 2.5 inches in diameter and winds up to 80 mph are the primary threats in parts of the state. The storm system could affect central and eastern Colorado, extending into the evening. Residents are urged to stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
The US National Weather Service Denver/Boulder warns that numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to form over the mountains and mountain valleys today. Heavy rainfall will be the main threat, but a brief severe storm with quarter-size hail and 60 mph winds isn’t out of the question. Westerly downslope winds across the Front Range will dry the airmass some.
However, scattered showers and thunderstorms are still expected. Far northeast Colorado may see the strongest storms, where large hail and damaging winds will be possible. Today’s forecast indicates a high of 92°F with clear skies in Denver. Air quality is reported as good in Denver with an index of 49.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and heed any warnings issued by local authorities to stay safe during this severe weather event.
