Denver, CO – Colorado is bracing for a sharp plunge in temperatures as an Arctic blast moves into the Rockies beginning Saturday, November 30, bringing the coldest air of the season and hazardous travel conditions through the first week of December.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong Arctic front will descend from Canada into the central Rockies this weekend, sending temperatures well below freezing. The Climate Prediction Center projects a 70–85% chance of below-normal temperatures statewide, with mountain valleys dipping below zero and wind chills dropping as low as -25°F in exposed areas.

Drivers along I-70 and I-25 should prepare for snow-packed and icy roadways, reduced visibility, and gusty winds that could make travel dangerous. The Colorado Department of Transportation advises motorists to carry emergency kits, reduce speed, and check for chain restrictions in higher elevations.

This Arctic surge marks the first major cold outbreak of the season for Colorado and will contribute to a broader pattern of frigid air sweeping across the Plains and Midwest. The cold is expected to linger through the first week of December before slowly moderating.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, ensure heating systems are working properly, and take extra precautions when traveling in mountain areas.
