Pueblo, Colo. – Warm, dry conditions will dominate southern Colorado through Saturday, but mountain areas could see snow showers and thunderstorms by Sunday night, prompting early travel cautions for higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, plains cities including La Junta, Lamar, and Pueblo will remain sunny with highs ranging from 72°F to 87°F through the weekend. Meanwhile, mountain valleys will stay mostly sunny with cooler highs in the 60s, and precipitation chances remain low until late Sunday.
In the mountains, temperatures are expected to drop from the mid-60s Friday to lows near freezing by Sunday night. A 40% chance of snow showers and a slight risk of thunderstorms arrive Sunday evening, particularly impacting areas above 9,000 feet. Travelers on U.S. 160 near Wolf Creek Pass and along Highway 50 west of Gunnison should watch for slippery conditions and reduced visibility.
Residents in high-altitude regions should prepare for changing weather by securing outdoor gear, checking tire chains, and limiting travel after dark Sunday.
More widespread moisture is likely to move into the area Monday, with additional weather alerts possible over the weekend.
